TOUR DESCRIPTION & ITINERARY
The 6-day birding tour will reward you with the avian life in the wilds of Uganda. The country is home to over 1000 bird species and is a mega spot for birders. On this safari, you will search for the rare Shoebill stork, come across; Great blue and Ross’ Turaco, White-crested hornbill, Red-billed dwarf hornbill, Piping-hornbill, dusky crimson-wing, Green-breasted pitta, and Abyssinian Ground thrush among others.
Day 1: Transfer to Mabamba
Travel early after breakfast to Mabamba wetland for introductory birding expedition. Mabamba wetland west of Kampala is known for its resident Shoebill stork. Birding her is on a canoe as you explore the swamp’s diversity, look out for African Jacana, Pied king fisher’s, Purple heron, Goliath heron and others. A picnic lunch and head to Entebbe botanical gardens for a late afternoon -evening bird watch, birds here; Pied kingfisher, yellow-billed duck, Giant kingfisher and many more: Meal Plan Full Board Overnight at the booked hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to Kibale National Park (about 6hrs driving)
After an early morning breakfast, depart west to Kibale. Lunch will be in Fort Portal town and proceed to the park arriving evening hours. Check-in at the lodge and relax on your evening. Meal plan: Full Board. Overnight at a booked lodge.
Day 3: Birds in Kibale forests.
After early breakfast, head to kanyancu station where you will start your birding trek. With the ranger guide enter the forests and search for species like; Brown-chested Alethe, Blue-breasted king fisher and Crowned Eagle among others. Lunch at the lodge or picnic. Proceed to Bigodi sanctuary a wildlife corridor to the park, a 3hours guided walk will reward you with the Great blue and Ross’ Turacos, Kingfishers and many other species. Retire for dinner and overnight at the lodge. Meal Plan: Full Board.
Day 4: Transfer to Semliki (about 3hrs journey)
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge, depart further North West of Kibale to Semliki national park. Arrive in the afternoon, check-in at your overnight accommodation, have lunch here and later proceed for a late evening birding experience in the park. Overnight at the booked lodge.
Day 5: Birding watching in Semliki
Breakfast at the lodge, with packed lunch, prepare for a full day birding expedition in Semliki. Being home to over 400bird-species, you will be rewarded with the bird varieties including; Dwarf-hornbill, Piping hornbill and Yellow throated nicator plus, many more. The 13km Kirumia trail through the heart of the forest to the Semliki river (8hrs) will reward you the best forest species. Overnight at the lodge, Meal Plan: Full board.
Day 6: Departure to Kampala or Entebbe
A delightful breakfast, check-out and we embark on our journey back to Kampala or Entebbe airport, lunch will be en-route or in Kampala.
