TOUR DESCRIPTION

This 6 days Gorilla & Chimpanzee holiday provides any visitor in Uganda with a chance to travel through the most beautiful parts of the country.

Starting off with a visit to Kibale national park, the primate capital of world and has the most magnificent tropical rain-forests in Uganda. The nearby Bigodi swamp provides excellent birding opportunities so you can take a walk there. You will visit southern part of Queen Elizabeth national park driving through the endless Ishasha plains, where the legendary tree climbing lions are found – one of the top 10 things to see while in Uganda. This trip will also take you for gorilla trekking in the jungle forests of Bwindi, in south western Uganda and later a cultural tour to the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers while on your way back to Kampala.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: Drive to Kibale

Your Guide/ Driver will pick you from Kampala and drive west via Hoima – fort portal road to Kibale Forest National park. Fort-Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon. Lunch will be en-route depending on the time, your guide will advise where to stop.

Day 2: Kibale forest national park

Early morning, visit Kibale Forest National Park, where you enjoy a guided walk in search of chimpanzee and 12 other primates including l’ Hoestes, Red colobus, blue, red-tailed monkeys, brown monkeys and gray – cheeked mangabey. The guide will provide detailed explanations, not only on primates, but on all the forest fauna and flora and will ensure that your walk is informative and enjoyable. This walk is excellent for viewing bird life and seeing primates at close quarters. After lunch, visit the community and take a walk in Bigodi Swamp.

Day 3: Kibale to Ishasha sector

Drive south to the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Mammalian specialties in this area include Giant Forest Hog and the legendary Tree-climbing Lions.

Day 4: Drive to Bwindi

Today we drive through the “Switzerland of Africa” area known as the Kigezi Highlands, with its terraced hillsides and winding roads to Bwindi impenetrable forest.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest

Early morning entry into the Gorilla sanctuary. This spectacular rainforest offers a dramatic steeply forested landscape which is incredibly dense and crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. This park is best known for the fascinating gorillas. The time taken and the terrain varies according to the movements of the primates. The thrill of observing the gorillas is a rare, moving, awesome and exciting adventure. The gorilla is a shy and peaceful animal and it is unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as they interact.

Day 6: Transfer back to Kampala

After breakfast, Drive back to Kampala stopping at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers en route where you will be able to watch ceremonial drums being crafted using methods passed down through generations. There will also be time to stop at the equator for photographs. You arrive in Kampala in the early evening.
