TOUR DESCRIPTION & ITINERARY
The 2 Days Gorilla Safari to Volcanoes National Park features mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and the heritage tour of the Kigali City. The Short Rwanda Gorilla Safari takes you to the Kigali genocide memorial also known as Gisozi genocide memorial exploring the living museum of the horrific genocide that befell Rwanda in the year 1994, the Presidential Palace Museum which was the home to the former President Juvenal Habyarimana whose death sparked off the genocide along with the Kigali Markets to have a feeling of the daily living of Rwandans. The 2 Days Gorilla Safari also takes you to Volcanoes National Park to track the endangered mountain gorillas thriving in the mist covered forests in the Virunga mountain ranges which are 8 in total with Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park sharing 5 of them. The park features over 178 bird species of which 13 species and 16 sub species are endemic to Virunga and Rwenzori Mountains
Day 1: Do Kigali City tour, visit the Gisozi genocide memorial, Kigali Markets, the Presidential Palace & transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
After breakfast, the safari guide will pick you up at your lodge in Kigali City to start on the Kigali City tour to explore the amazing city landscapes that have a blend of history and modernity. The city tour includes the Kigali genocide memorial also known as Gisozi genocide memorial to explore the dark Rwandan history where the ethnic conflict resulted into the death of over 800,000 people. Here you will get to learn about its cause and effect. The city tour also takes you to the Presidential Palace which is the home of the former Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana whose death sparked the genocide in Rwanda. The remains of his Presidential Jet in which he clashed can be seen in the compound. You also get to take a walk through the Kigali markets to gain an insight into the daily life of the business in Rwanda. And after the Kigali City tour, you transfer to Volcanoes National Park which is a 116km about 3 hours’ drive passing through the scenic landscapes of Rwanda with rolling hills that have earned her a dub as the land of a thousand hills. You arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Do Gorilla trekking and transfer back to Kigali
You will assemble at the Volcanoes Park Headquarters Kinigi for the Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park starting 8am local time. The earlier arrival gives you an opportunity to rewards with a traditional performance by the local Rwandese showcasing their culture and also a hot cup of coffee is available all at a zero cost. And during this time different mountain gorilla families are allocated and then briefing follows in your respective groups. A briefing is given about the gorilla trekking conduct after being allocated the respective gorilla family to track. After the briefing, you start your Gorilla trek traversing the impressive mountainous landscapes before coming across the Mountain Gorillas. The one hour with mountain gorillas is rewarding as you see them forage, socialize and the young ones playing. You have the opportunity to take as many photos as you can to keep memory of your lifetime encounter with the gorillas. After your trek, transfer back to Kigali to mark the end of the Rwanda gorilla tour.
